ABHC CURRENT STUDIES

At ABHC we believe strongly in the importance of conducting research. This is a vital step in learning more about the nature of anxiety with the ultimate hope that this knowledge will reduce the suffering created by anxiety.

Being treated at our clinic will involve a reciprocal and mutually beneficial relationship. Individuals coming to the clinic are co-investigators. We learn from our patients just as they learn from us. Our current, on-going research studies are described below.

Please email us or call at 850 / 645-1766 if you are interested in any of these studies, or if you have questions. You can also complete our simple and completely confidential recruitment form

ATTENTION RETRAINING FOR GAD

In collaboration with researchers at the University of California, we are testing a novel therapeutic intervention that is focused on correcting "over-attention" to threat. The process is simple - it requires only a few visits where participants complete a series of computer tasks.

Despite its simplicity, preliminary findings suggest that this intervention provides significant relief. Please complete the online recruitment form or contact us for more information.

COMPULSIVE HOARDING TREATMENT

Compulsive hoarding is a little studied condition that represents a major public health concern both from a personal and public health perspective. Traditionally, treatment for compulsive hoarding has been relatively more difficult than for other conditions, and it is thus imperative that we explore additional ways in which to improve the therapeutic outcome for hoarding.

We are investigating a novel intervention that may supplement traditional cognitive-behavioral therapies for compulsive hoarding. By focusing initially on a specific risk factor for hoarding, which on the surface does not appear to be associated with collecting behaviors, we are hoping to examine the impact on an individual's readiness for CBT.

This intervention is free to eligible participants and involves four individualized sessions with a trained therapist. If you are eighteen years or older and interested in treating your collecting and acquiring problem, please complete the online recruitment form or contact us for more information.
